How to install Tongue and Groove Bathroom and Shower Perform Panels.

To ensure the best installation and performance, storing all panels flat on their backs for at least 48 hours in the room where they will be installed is essential. This allows the panels to adjust to the specific conditions of the room. Before installation, a dry fit is recommended to ensure the panels interlock smoothly. Our Nu-Lock panels can be installed directly attached to the wall or bonded using a high-quality adhesive. For the latter, we recommend using our Perform Panel adhesive. Regardless of the installation method, it is crucial to securely fasten the panel’s grooved edge to the wall to ensure it remains flat and stable, facilitating the interlocking of subsequent panels.

If attaching without adhesive, space the fixings 400mm apart. Each Nu-Lock panel comes with one tongue and one grooved edge. Remove the corresponding edge from the panel to ensure a proper fit when incorporating extrusions. Begin by exposing the first panel to the wall or frame, exposing the grooved edge. Use non-corrosive No. 6 screws at 600mm intervals along the groove’s bottom flat part, taking care not to split the panel while drilling. Screws should sit flush to prevent obstruction of the next panel. Apply a thin line of silicone sealant to the top of the tongue on the following panel, angled into the groove at 45 degrees before securely snapping back against the wall.

Continue this process, culminating with an end cap for the final panel (after removing the groove for a tidy fit). In shower or bathtub applications, maintain a 4mm clearance above the base, sealing the gap with silicone to avoid movement. The Panseal bottom trim is another viable option, with specific installation instructions provided separately. In wet areas, seal the board’s base with an end cap, applying silicone before fitting the extrusion. Permanently seal any exposed wood to prevent moisture damage.
